Why is My Dishwasher Leaking?

 Why is My Dishwasher Leaking?

If a leak suddenly develops around your dishwasher, you may want to consider some DIY solutions but contacting Mr. Rooter Plumbing can save you the trouble, time and expenses.

What is causing your dishwasher to leak?

Just before you perform any DIY solution to leakages around the dishwasher, simply take a piece of towel to soak up the water. If a leak occurs while your dishwasher is running, then it could be as a result of one or more of the following;

Gasket leakage- when there is water on the floor and in front of your dishwasher, it could mean that the gasket is leaking. Make sure you check the seal around the door and replace the gasket if you detect any torn or ripped section.

Broken door latch that holds the dishwasher close during the wash cycle, might be loose and needs replacement.

The use of incorrect detergent may cause excessive suds that may force some soap and water out. Make sure you replace such detergent.

Faulty valves or hose connections can also cause leakages in your dishwasher. Simply turn off the dishwasher or unplug the circuit breaker, then remove the toe-kick located under the dishwasher door, in order to access the water inlet valve. Also, check the recirculation hose alongside the drain hose located inside the dishwasher. Make sure you check loose connections, corrosion, and faulty Solenoid valve. You may have to contact Mr. Rooter Plumbing to replace any faulty component.

The seal around the water pump may also become leaky, and when there is water dripping from the pump housing or motor, then there is the need for a replacement of the rubber seal or pump.

Problems associated with flow switch can occur when the dishwasher becomes too full, then the float switch is unable to prevent the dishwasher from being over-filled with water. You may have to replace the float switch if it is not working efficiently.

Drainage issue such as the inability of the dishwasher to drain properly can cause water levels to rise quickly. Make sure you check the filter at the bottom of the tub to ensure that there is no clog preventing proper draining.

Improper sitting of the dishwasher especially when the leveling screws are loose, may also cause the imbalance of the appliance, and that could cause crooked posture that can lead to leaks. Make use of an open-end adjustable wrench to adjust the legs of the dishwasher.
